The Dining Hall has 10 unique sizes of aesthetic and structural archways that span up to 15’ crossing both radius and straight openings. Though this project did not require a large number of pieces, the large amount of cubic feet of precast and how integral the precast arches are with the structure made this a challenging project. Each arch was integrated with the CMU structure through a series of dowels on 16” centers, originating from the archways.
The covered way is comprised of 17 segments of precast units extending over 125 feet to connect the Dining Hall with other facilities. This covered walkway is duplicated throughout the campus as a consistent architectural feature. Each covered walkway arched panel weighs approx 5500 lbs each.
